Hunger Games Fever: PSA Posters by College Humor.
Like the rest of the world, I was counting down the days until the premier of The Hunger Games movie last month. In case you just woke from a coma, The Hunger Games is the first book of a trilogy written by Suzanne Collins. Without giving too much away, the back of the book has the following description:
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. Each year, the districts are forced by the Capitol to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the Hunger Games, a brutal and terrifying fight to the death – televised for all of Panem to see. Twenty-four are forced to enter. Only the winner survives.
Kids murdering each other and it being broadcast as sport. Yup, it’s sure to be the feel-good movie of the year! I know it seems barbaric, but the book is incredibly compelling. I read it with my students and, by the time this post goes live, I will be sitting in a darkened theater watching it with a group of them. FIELD TRIP!
To add fuel to the already insane hype surrounding the movie release, the ingenious and uber-talented minds over at College Humor came up with a propaganda campaign inspired by the book.
The set of posters have a vintage, WPA-style to them, and feature characters and themes from the popular series.
As far as I can tell, the posters are not for sale, but their mock-public service announcement messages are spot-on and hilarious! Which one is your favorite?
